Yesterday, the Washington Post and CNN reported that the Secretary of Defense personally issued orders to 'kill everybody' aboard a civilian vessel suspected of narcotrafficking. The attack on 2 September 2025 targeted a vessel carrying 11 civilians and, allegedly, an unknown quantity of drugs. The first strike resulted in near-total destruction of the vessel. However, two survivors were apparently observed via surveillance video clinging to wreckage, whereupon the commander directing the operation ordered a second strike. The second strike killed both survivors.
The Former JAGs Working Group unanimously considers both the giving and the execution of these orders, if true, to constitute war crimes, murder, or both. Our group was established in February 2025 in response to the SECDEF’s firing of the Army and Air Force Judge Advocates General and his systematic dismantling of the military’s legal guardrails. Around seventh grade I learned our eyes see things upside down. Our eyes’ lenses invert the light-borne images they receive before they pass them to our retinas. When the images hit the optic nerve, our brains flip them again, so we don’t have to stand on our heads to see the world as it really is.
Why did that middle school science come back to me? Though I haven’t paid much attention to the Epstein brouhaha, when I saw that the President has called it a "Democrat hoax,” I knew I was back in Trump's upside-down world.
"Hoax” is one of Mr. Trump’s favorite words. He often uses it when confronted with a reality he wishes would go away. We heard it repeatedly during the Russian election interference scandal that dogged his first term. Although a joint Senate panel echoed the Mueller report and found Trump associates did work closely with the Russians, Trump is now asking taxpayers to fork over $230 million for the trouble and expense investigations into that Russian scandal, his groundless denial of the 2020 election results, and the classified documents he spirited to Mar-a-Lago have caused him (nytimes.com).
Following his lead, other Trump acolytes are doing the same. The Justice Department’s $5 million payment to the family of the woman shot while crawling through a Capitol window during the Jan. 6, 2021, riot was only a down payment. Michael Flynn, convicted of lying to the FBI during the Mueller probe, is now seeking a $50 million payout from the Justice Department (newserv.com). I guess paying people for breaking the law makes sense, if you look at the world up-side down.
Fossil fuel driven climate change is another hoax, or so Trump says. His administration is proposing to open over a billion acres to offshore to oil drilling in the arctic and the lower forty-eight, while refusing to send delegates to the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Belem, Brazil (nytimes.com). Why bother with climate change? After all, it’s a hoax, just like the “Democrat hoax” Trump called the media’s reaction to Covid-19 when he was still downplaying Covid’s virulence (nbcnews.com).
Now we have the Epstein hoax, according to Trump again brought to us by Democrats (npr.org). Trump was only one of many prominent men, Republicans and Democrats, in Epstein’s orbit. Though the House and Senate have now ordered the FBI Epstein files released, we may never know if Trump or other Epstein hangers-on sexually abused underaged girls. But we do know that the Trump-Epstein connection is real. It’s not a hoax perpetrated by Democrats. Saying anything else is a lie.
Lying is truth stood on its head, and by July of this year even Artificial Intelligence, known for telling a few whoppers of its own (sciencealert.com), had had enough of Trump’s lies. When asked about Trump’s repeated claims about immigrants, the economy, the Ukraine war, tariffs, and more, the leading chatbots all said he was lying (insights. som. yale.edu). I may have to upgrade my opinion of A. I.

Things haven’t changed since Trump told his 31,000 lies during his first time in the White House. Did DOGE save the $52 billion the administration said it did? Not even close. Politico reported the immediate savings were closer to $1.2 billion, not counting costs to the government over DODGE litigation and the erratic firing and rehiring that ensued. Would you trust your money to people whose math was off by a factor of 50 and passed a budget based on phony numbers (bipartisanpolicy.org)? Well, we did.
How about those tariffs that were going to compensate for the billions gifted to the wealthy in the Big Beautiful Bill? Though Mr. Trump recently said, “prices are coming down” (foxbusiness.com), he also said he’ll return what we’re paying in higher prices in the form of a $2000 bonus check. So, either lower or higher prices and a higher deficit. I don’t expect that check in my Christmas stockings.
Turns out that in Trump World, the Constitution also had it backwards when it stated the president cannot accept “any present, Emolument…of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince, or foreign State” without the consent of Congress.” Among other presents, including some crypto investments worth billions (cbsnews.com), the Founders forgot to mention the small gift of a large jet.

I would like someone to ask the master builder a simple question with regard to the White House renovation, do you start building and tearing down parts of a building before or after you have blueprints finalized for what you plan to build? You would think that would be a simple question for someone who claims he knows more about building than anyone else in history. Trump has said in the past that the secret to being a "great developer" is to tear down first then tell regulators and an outraged public to go fuck themselves, so of course he was going to rip down part of the White House without any plans. Actual physical plans would mean the Nosy Parkers, John Q and Mary Public would have a chance to comment on his self-aggrandizing schemes he has in mind for the public's house.

Yesterday’s Times had a big article about a small group of Somali-American fraudsters in Minnesota ripping off state programs set up mainly to help with food and housing during the pandemic. On Tim Walz’s watch. And they prominently feature Fatty weighing in.
The writer takes great pains to blame Walz and wonder how such horrible fraud could get by without any (Democrats) noticing (as usual, Republicans have no responsibility for anything), also pointing out (with no small bit of schadenfreude) that Fat Hitler and the Party of Traitors could very well boot Democrats out of power over this scandal.
But while we're talking about outrageous scandals, nowhere do they say anything like, “But on the other hand, vast corruption involving billions of dollars has been a daily feature of the Trump administration.” I guess “both-sides do it” protection is only afforded to Trump by the NYT.
Oh, and they make it a point to tell us that trolls like Christopher Rufo have claimed that these fraudsters are funneling the money to Somali terrorists. “But there has been no solid evidence to substantiate it.”
