Dan Mangan & Kevin Breuninger of CNBC: “Former FBI Director James Comey is expected to be indicted on criminal charges in the coming days in federal court in Virginia, MSNBC reported Wednesday. The news comes days after the top prosecutor in the Eastern District of Virginia resigned under pressure from ... Donald Trump after opposing filing charges against Comey. Comey for years has been a target of Trump’s ire.... MSNBC reporter Ken Dilanian, in a post on X, said Comey is expected to be indicted in the Eastern District of Virginia, according to three people familiar with the matter. 'The full extent of the charges being prepared against Comey is unclear, but the sources believe that at least one element of the indictment — if it goes forward -- will accuse him of lying to Congress during his testimony on September 30, 2020 about whether he authorized a leak of information,' Dilanian tweeted. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, that day had asked Comey if he lied when he said he did not authorize a leak of information to The Wall Street Journal.The reporter noted that the five-year statute of limitations on that charge would lapse next Tuesday.” ~~~
~~~ Update. Katherine Faulders, et al., of ABC News: "Earlier this week, prosecutors presented Lindsey Halligan -- Trump’s former personal attorney whom he appointed to lead the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia -- with a detailed memo recommending that she decline to bring perjury and obstruction charges against Comey, the sources familiar with the memo said. A monthslong investigation into Comey by DOJ prosecutors failed to establish probable cause of a crime -- meaning that not only would they be unable to secure a conviction of Comey by proving the claims beyond a reasonable doubt, but that they couldn’t reach a significantly lower standard to secure an indictment, the sources said.... Despite their recommendations, Halligan -- who has never prosecuted a criminal case in her career as an insurance lawyer -- plans to present evidence to a grand jury before the statute of limitations for the alleged offense expires next week, the sources said. The investigation centers on testimony Comey gave before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Sept. 30, 2020, about the FBI’s missteps in the 'Crossfire Hurricane' probe, which had delved into possible but ultimately unproven collaboration between Russia and Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign.” The link is a gift link.
From an NBC News liveblog: "Three people were shot at an ICE facility in Dallas this morning, an ICE spokesperson confirmed to NBC News. Two of the victims have died. The victims are ICE detainees, the spokesperson said. No ICE officers were hurt in the shooting. The suspected shooter is dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said. The shooter fired multiple rounds from a roof or an elevated position down into the field office’s sally port, an ICE spokesperson confirmed." ~~~
~~~ Update. From the pinned item (at 4:30 pm ET Wednesday) on a New York Times liveblog: “A shooter opened fire on a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in Dallas on Wednesday, killing one detainee and critically wounding two others, investigators said. The gunman died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound and left behind ammunition that bore the phrase 'ANTI-ICE' in blue writing, according to officials. No law enforcement agents were hurt in the shooting, and investigators released few details. But officials suggested that it was a targeted attack aimed at immigration enforcement agents. Kash Patel, the F.B.I. director, posted an image of the ammunition on social media, saying that an initial review of the evidence indicated an ideological motive.
“Three people familiar with the investigation identified the gunman as Joshua Jahn. One of the people ... gave the gunman’s age as 29. The Department of Homeland Security said in a statement that the gunman had opened fire from a nearby rooftop, describing him as a 'sniper' who shot 'indiscriminately,' including at a van in an entrance area where the victims were struck. The identities of the victims have not been released, but one of the injured is a Mexican national, according to Mexico’s foreign ministry.
“Members of the Trump administration quickly sought to cast blame on harsh rhetoric against immigration enforcement agents. 'This vile attack was motivated by hatred for ICE,' Kristi Noem, the Homeland Security secretary, said in a statement. 'For months, we’ve been warning politicians and the media to tone down their rhetoric about ICE law enforcement before someone was killed.' During a news conference with law enforcement officials, Senator Ted Cruz, Republican of Texas, also blamed heated criticism of immigration agents.”

The show was set to begin streaming its first two episodes on Friday.... Two people ... said that the company was reluctant to release the show in the current political climate, after the assassination of Charlie Kirk this month. Ms. Chastain, who is also an executive producer on the show, took to social media on Wednesday morning to push back against the decision.... 'The Savant' is based on the Cosmopolitan article 'Is It Possible to Stop a Mass Shooting Before It Happens' by Andrea Stanley. Written in 2019, the feature follows an unnamed investigator known as the Savant whose job revolves around identifying violent extremists before they commit heinous crimes.” See also Akhilleus' commentary below.
Paul Krugman: "Trump is nakedly following the playbook of autocrats like Vladimir Putin and Viktor Orban. As his poll numbers fall, he is rushing to lock in permanent power by punishing his opponents and intimidating everyone else into submission. Craven congressional Republicans and a complicit Supreme Court have abetted Trump’s destruction of our democratic safeguards and norms. Yet Trump has a significant problem that neither Putin nor Orban faced. When Putin and Orban were consolidating their autocratics, they were genuinely popular.... Trump, by contrast, is deeply unpopular. He is increasingly seen as chaotic and inept.... Is the Jimmy Kimmel affair the harbinger of a failed Trumpian putsch?... Disney was evidently completely unprepared for the backlash caused by its decision to take Jimmy Kimmel off the air, a backlash so costly that the company reversed course after just five days — too late to avoid probably irreparable damage to its brand. And this time I hope and believe that other institutions will take notice."
Jennifer Rubin of the Contrarian: “Donald Trump, like the Bourbon dynasty, has 'learned nothing and forgotten nothing.' His defining features—aside from narcissism—are his willful, cringeworthy ignorance and his unremitting hunger for vengeance. Both have been on humiliating display of late.... Trump’s ignorance may be the defining feature of his agenda. He refuses to learn that consumers pay tariffs or that Russia is the aggressor in Ukraine or that windmills don’t hurt whales or that immigrants are not responsible for rising crime (which isn’t even rising) or that it is illegal to blow up boats on the high seas that could be interdicted. Knowledge and common sense would simply get in the way of his desire and ambition. However, his propensity for vengeance is as robust as his ignorance.”

Luke Broadwater of the New York Times: Donald Trump “accused environmentalists of wanting to 'kill all the cows.' He personally insulted the Muslim mayor of London. He bashed allies and foes across the globe. He questioned whether the United Nations should even exist. 'What is the purpose of the United Nations?' [he] asked a gathering of the U.N. General Assembly on Tuesday, in a meandering, 56-minute speech that extended nearly four times as long as his allotted time limit. 'I’m really good at this stuff,' Mr. Trump said. 'Your countries are going to hell.' In his remarks, Mr. Trump lectured the United Nations and other countries about how they were failing, and aired a list of grievances. Those included but were not limited to: a malfunctioning escalator at the U.N.; his not winning a renovation contract at the United Nations during his time as a real estate developer; windmills; other countries’ immigration policies, which he claimed were leading them to ruin; and the way Brazil is being run.” ~~~
~~~ Eli Stokols of Politico: “... Donald Trump blasted the United Nations in his speech to the General Assembly on Tuesday, complaining about deficiencies inside the organization’s headquarters and asserting that he was singlehandedly engaging in peacemaking efforts because the UN hadn’t done enough.... ~~~ Trump Embarrasses U.S. Steve Benen of MSNBC: “Over the course of his remarks, [Trump] told strange lies about foreign investments in the U.S.... He pretended that he’s ended seven wars, while pointing to approval ratings that exist only in his mind. He renewed his pathetic lobbying for a Nobel Peace Prize, falsely claiming that 'everyone' wants him to get one. He took pointless shots at ostensible U.S. allies in NATO and at the United Nations itself. He told unnamed officials that their countries are 'going to hell.' He bragged about campaign swag sales. He attacked clean, renewable energy, while insisting that climate science is an elaborate 'con job' and a 'hoax' concocted by nefarious people with 'evil intentions.'... Trump told one of his favorite lies, bragging that international respect for the U.S. has reached all-time highs now that he’s back in power. This is, of course, the opposite of the truth — global surveys have shown support for the U.S. has collapsed in recent months — and it was an especially painful lie, given that Trump was alienating the world while delivering the ludicrous comment.” ~~~
~~~ Trump Blamed U.N. for His Own Staff's Screw-ups. Sarah Ewall-Wice of the Daily Beast, republished by Yahoo! But [his own staff caused] the embarrassing hitches.... First, the escalator stopped immediately after Trump and his wife, Melania, stepped onto it ahead of his major speech.... White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt posted a tweet later, demanding an investigation into whether someone had intentionally halted the escalator. But according to someone familiar with the situation, someone in the president’s own entourage accidentally tripped the emergency stop.... As Trump took the podium to speak, he complained that the teleprompter was not working. Instead, he had to read the printed copy of his speech. However, a person with knowledge of the situation ... said that the White House had its own laptop, and UN technicians were not in the booth for the president’s address.... David Sanger of the New York Times: Donald “Trump reversed himself on one of the key foreign policy issues of his presidency on Tuesday, abandoning his insistence that Ukraine give up land to strike a peace deal with Russia and instead declaring that Ukraine, with the support of Europe, was 'in a position to fight and WIN all of Ukraine back in its original form.' His turnabout on social media shortly after a meeting in New York with President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine was a head-spinning pivot. After his three-hour meeting with Russia’s president, Vladimir V. Putin, in Alaska more than five weeks ago, he insisted that Mr. Zelensky would have to face reality and make a deal, giving up territory to its larger and stronger neighbor.... The document explains how the administration will direct the money — totaling $1.8 billion, it says — toward vague initiatives abroad such as countering 'Marxist, anti-American regimes' in Latin America, and pursuing investments in Greenland and Ukraine. Rural health providers that rely on Medicaid funding were already under strain before the bill cut federal health spending by hundreds of billions of dollars over the next decade."

"How social scientists could help to rebuild the federal government
Lessons from my time in the Biden administration
But there is important work that social scientists can do now: tracking the Trump Administration’s efforts to roll back scientific capacity, explaining what changes mean in ways accessible to the public and civic leaders, helping to organize their colleagues, and joining litigation. And beyond the immediate response, social scientists should also begin thinking about what comes after the Trump Administration and the role that social science has played–and could help play–in making better federal policy.
As University of Michigan law professor and former Department of Health and Human Services General Counsel Sam Bagenstos put it powerfully, when “the forces of good return to power…[w]e will need to be truly ready on day one…to implement a domestic Marshall Plan for the U.S. government.”
Bagenstos persuasively argues that transition efforts cannot simply focus on replacing laid-off civil servants and re-funding federal agencies. Instead, rebuilders need to think much more ambitiously: changing structures of government to reflect the profoundly altered terrain we will encounter."
"Waaaah! Wind doesn't work!
Hmmm....okay. Well, if not, then how do you account for this?
Or this?
This?
How 'bout this?
Still not convinced? Okay, here's what National Geographic has to say about how well wind works:
"Wind can sometimes blow sand into towering dunes. Some sand dunes in the Badain Jaran section of the Gobi Desert in China, for example, reach more than 400 meters (1,300 feet) high. In dry areas, windblown sand can blast against a rock with tremendous force, slowly wearing away the soft rock. It polishes rocks and cliffs until they are smooth—giving the stone a so-called “desert varnish.” Wind is responsible for the eroded features that give Arches National Park in the U.S. state of Utah its name.
Wind can also erode material until little remains at all. Ventifacts are rocks that have been sculpted by wind erosion. The enormous chalk formations in the White Desert of Egypt are ventifacts carved by thousands of years of wind roaring through the flat landscape. Some of the most destructive examples of wind erosion are the dust storms that characterized the “Dust Bowl” of the 1930s in North America."
A president doesn't have to have an advanced degree in science to do the job, but a command of third grade science would be nice.
And speaking of science....
How about doing just a teensy-tiny-wispy bit of research before looking like a moronic doucebag?
So...Tylenol, or as Fatty tried (and failed, multiple times) to say....aceta...ceta...um...acet-a-mimifin? Is that right? is the cause of autism...
Right.
in less than 60 seconds, here's what I found:
Autism, first noted in medical literature by Eugen Bleuler, a Swiss psychiatrist in 1911, it was recognized as a distinct medical condition by Dr. Leo Kanner in 1943.
Tylenol didn't hit the market until 1955.
Here endeth the lesson.
Moron.
Sometimes, when it comes to scientific advances, Fatty
Oops...fingers not working this morning....let's try that again...
And a one, and a two...
OFTEN, when it comes to scientific advances, Fatty reminds me of this guy.
Research
Like President Zelensky, I did a double take when I heard that Fat Hitler was all of a sudden big on Ukraine not getting stomped by his BFF, Vladdy Daddy. But like Marie, I also figured this just another snit from the whiny baby cuz his one true love has been mooning him every time he talks about Ending the War in 24 hours and where's my Nobel?
But, as the sign over the door to the Opiod Office sez, "Next mood swing in seven minutes".
The second Vladdy crooks his finger and sez "C'mon back", TACO boy will call up Zelensky and he and little Marco, Drunk Pete, Himmler Miller, and KKKaroline will be singing this.
"My boyfriend's back and you're gonna get a beatin'."
@Akhilleus: I'm pretty sure that guy checking out the Emerson black-and-whites was Fred Trump, though I'm surprised he wanted a black-and-white teevee, knowing as I do how he felt about the blacks.
I'd note the Pretender's about face on Ukraine designated the NATO he's doing his best to destroy to be the force that will redeem Ukraine's fortunes. Not the U. S.
Whadda a CS.
Marie,
I think he heard "colored" TV, and that was all she wrote.
Toto, I'm glad we're not in Kansas anymore.
The large print giveth and the small minds taketh away. So just as Demorcrats (and democracy) make a gain in Arizona, the Traitors in Kansas are busy trying to shiv voters who put a lone Democrat into office, because, really, voters don't get to make decisions, the Traitors decide.
"Republicans in the Kansas legislature are planning to petition to call themselves into a special session on redistricting, circumventing Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly. An announcement could happen soon. This special session would be the beginning of a lengthy process to try and draw Democratic Rep. Sharice Davids out of her Kansas City-based district. This push, which comes amid White House pressure, is the newest front in the nationwide redistricting wars."
I see where Traitors in North Carolina got right to work passing a law regarding bail in the aftermath of a terrible murder on a Charlotte train. And in Kansas they jumped right on the horse to get rid of the only elected Democrat in the state.
Funny, in'it? When they want to, normally indolent and nearly comatose R's can pass legislation in a flash when it helps push their political and ideological goals, but regular everyday legislation that might actually help people takes decades of "We need more studies" before anything gets done. Currently, on a federal level, no legislation at all is moving through congress (unless it's something to pad Fatty's pockets or for building monuments to St. Charlie of Kirk), the "governance" comes from Egg-zecutive Orders written by Himmler Miller or corporate lawyers.
Akhilleus,
The pathetic thing is that Kansas Republicans already tried to gerrymander Davids out of her seat with their last redistricting. Fortunately Davids was able to survive and get the votes anyway. Now they get another try to silence the voters and create even more ridiculous maps. But the Supine's say it is okay, anyway the people can try vote them out if they don't like it. That's how our faux democracy works, pretend that the people have an equal say in their own governance while rigging it and suppressing it at every level.
@RAS: I love the way Krugman, now unshackled from the constraints imposed by the fastidious Gray Lady, comes right out & tags the Supremes. Today he wrote, "But at this juncture [Trump] is a quasi-autocrat. He is the leader of a party that accommodates his every whim, backed by a corrupt Supreme Court prepared to validate whatever he does, no matter how clearly it violates the law."
@Marie: Yeah, as we have noted here for quite a while the Sadistic Six have thrown off any pretence of following the law or Constitution in order to green light nearly anything the demented orange monster and his ghouls want to inflict on the world. Like Trump's corruption, they no long feel the need for pretext or slow walking their pro-Republican crime agenda. It has taken too long for so many to readjust to our reality versus the fairy tales we were sold as kids of the court. Also many who could see the truth were suppressed by the powers that be, like the NYT, that wanted to continue to sell that fairy tale to the public. The more people openly calling out the Supreme Court's corruption the better for us all.
And they are also lazy. Another Republican characteristic.
Friends statue
"Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein holding hands, titled "Best Friends Forever," which appeared on the National Mall in Washington D.C. in front of the US Capitol today."
Thought I"d posted this...or something like it.
RAS,
The chart you provided documenting the Supreme laziness might not have included their many recent consequential shadow docket "decisions. They're still working hard after dark.
RAS,
Yeah, in the same way that Little Johnny Roberts declared racism a thing of the past. "Of COURSE you darkies can vote in states that historically made it their business to make sure they'd accept a Russian takeover before they'd let you near a polling place. Racism no longer exists, so we killed that part of the Voting Rights Act, and if you see armed white supremacists surrounding your polling station giving you the evil eye, it's all in your head; never fear, they're just there to exercise their second amendment rights. And we all love the Constumatushun, right? Y'll take care now, hear?"
RAS,
C'mon now. You KNOW those Supines are busy beavers. Sammy and Clarence have to plan their luxury vacations and make sure the private jets will be available when they're ready to go. Also, they need time to go places and lecture Americans on law stuff, letting them know that precedence ain't all it's cracked up to be. Then there's Amy Phony Barrett....she's got her book tour, Bart has to plan his jello shot parties, good ol' Neil is combing through reports to make sure lazy ass Americans are giving their lives for their corporate overlords and not shirking their duty by trying to save themselves. It's tough.
Besides, look at all the 'mergency shadow docket stuff they have to do to help Fat Hitler in his Project Authoritarian schemes.
We must be kind to the MAGAts.
A few more things about yesterday's World Class Numbnuts presser in which a fat idiot instructed pregnant women to just "tough it out". Because pregnancy is so easy, what's a little pain?
Who knows who wrote that rant, but I'm guessing WormBrain and his coterie of vacuous vaccine vandals added the bit about how parent should not allow pediatricians (you know, the people who KNOW WHAT THEY'RE DOING) to give kids the MMRV vaccine, and instead, if they want to disobey WormBrain and actually try to protect the kid from easily contracted and sometimes deadly diseases, parents should now break up those shots into three or four visits. According to Fatty, kids are being "pumped with 80 shots or more."
Let's think about how stupid, and dangerous, that idea is.
First, those of us with kids realize what an ordeal it can be to make appointments to see a pediatrician. The MMRV vaccine, which combines protection against multiple diseases and is completely safe, is by far and away the best way to ensure your child's health and safety.
Sure, you could break it up, but then here's what happens. In many cases, parents don't have the luxury of taking four separate days off from work, so a lot of parents might, at some point, decline to go back to get the other shots, thus endangering not only their kid, but other children who might come into contact with them if and when they do contract one of these conditions. Then there's the expense of multiple doctor visits, not to mention the stress it puts on children to have to get stuck four times instead of once.
All this is to say, that it seems to me that WormBrain and his cohorts of unqualified hacks have found a neat way to dilute the vaccinated population without coming right out and saying "Don't vaccinate your kids". It's like saying, if you want this job, minority person, you have to pass this test on the history of pre-Columbian Brazil, provide us with a complete dossier of your entire life, run a mile in under 5 minutes, learn Swahili in four days, and make a passable French soufflé, blindfolded. How many people will stay the course? How many will even apply?
So, to sum up, more subterfuge in the service of killing Americans.
The MAGA Way.
Doncha love what fucking lying cowards these conniving creeps are? Here's First Amendment Killer, Brendan Carr, Fatty's FCC bulldog, now saying, in the wake of Jimmy Kimmel going back on the air, that the decision by Disney/ABC to kill the show was purely because of ratings and had nothing to do with anything he said. "The government played no role in that decision."
What? Dude. You made a mafia style threat in a podcast! (pretend I'm Ted Cruz doing his mafia voice) "We can do this the easy way or the hard way", and "The FCC will have more work to do" regarding other ABC shows Fat Hitler doesn't like. How is that the government playing no role?
If you wanna be an authoritarian tool, just fucking own it. Don't come back with "I din do nothin'" bullshit.
Liars and cowards.
More knee bending to the White Supremacist in the Blight House...
Apple (ie, Tim Cook, another billionaire Tech Bro) has pulled a new show about tracking down violent white supremacist groups that was supposed to have its premiere in two days on Apple TV.
According to Variety, pulling this show is a terrible idea right now.
"In a shocking decision, Apple TV+ has postponed the premiere of the Jessica Chastain drama series 'The Savant,' offering another chilling example of how business giants are running scared of the Trump administration, and bowing to pressure before it even exists. The series had been scheduled to premiere Sept. 26....
'The Savant' is precisely the type of show America needs right now. It looks at a sector of mostly white male individuals who believe that America belongs to them. Fueled by hate, bigotry, xenophobia and misogyny, they talk cruelly and candidly online about enacting harm and violence toward individuals or 'others' who they feel are unworthy of being in 'their' country. Nowhere in the show does it mention Donald Trump’s name, and other than depicting white nationalists in a negative light 'The Savant' is a straightforward, non-controversial character study — and a well-paced thriller — about one woman trying to stop domestic terrorism."
The show is based on a real woman profiled in a 2019 magazine article.
I guess the MAGAts won't take kindly to white supremacy groups getting a bad rap. After all, they're just nice guys doing what's best for the white race, right?
More disgusting kowtowing, obedience in advance.
If you're interested, here is the article"The Savant" is based on.
A wild story. You can see how this would make a great show highlighting the sort of commitment that goes into keeping (some of) the nuts at bay, or in prison, and the necessity for keeping her identity secret.
A good read.
David Karpf, for The Atlantic, on The MAGA Media Takeover
where he summaized our current world with:
"In an ideal world, Congress would establish a regulatory framework for all online platforms, regardless of ownership, requiring algorithmic auditing and placing reasonable limits on digital surveillance and data collection. This should have happened a long time ago. But we don’t live in an ideal world. We’re stuck living in this one."
Did witches cast a spell on Charlie Kirk?
I have a list, and I've got cash.

"Trump hangs autopen image instead of Biden portrait in presidential portrait gallery"
Such a joke!
The Fat Hitler regime is indicting James Comey for allegedly giving "false testimony" to Congress????
Hypocrisy unbound!
.
Pretty much every single member of Fatty's Cabinet of Dr. Caligari lied through their teeth to Congress both during their confirmation hearings, not to mention lying when they took an oath to uphold the Constitution and to faithfully discharge the duties of their office. None of the official duties specifies lying for a dictator. And Fatty himself lies with every breath.
Oh, but let's forget all about those lies.
Ridiculous.
And lest we forget, Comey's bumbling investigation of Clinton's emails and his ill-timed pressers likely elected the Pretender. Instead of indicting him, the Preteder ought to give him an award, maybe the now meaningless Presidential Medal of Freedom.
