“The National Personnel Records Center, part of the National Archives and Records Administration, released Sherrill’s full military file with only minor redactions in response to a Freedom of Information Act request from Nicholas De Gregorio, a New Jersey politician and ally of Ciattarelli. Sherrill’s Social Security number, home address and other personal details that were supposed to be redacted were left in the documents when released.... In [a] letter to Sherrill, National Personnel Records Center Director Scott Levins apologized and called the incident an 'error.'” Republicans have been claiming that Sherrill was implicated in a 199os cheating scandal at the Naval Academy.
