Julian Barnes, et al., of the New York Times: “Less than three weeks from elections that could shift the balance of power in Congress, more signs are emerging that Russia and other foreign governments are once again seeking to influence American voters.... The influence operation known as Doppelgänger has created a flood of social media posts pushing themes of how bipartisan support for Israel is collapsing, according to Alethea, the threat intelligence company. Doppelgänger is run by Russia’s Social Design Agency, a public relations firm. Both the U.S. government and the European Union have imposed punitive sanctions upon it. On Wednesday, X, the social media platform, announced it had banned 13,000 accounts linked to three separate influence operations connected to Iran, Russia and China. The platform said the fake accounts amplified 'content about U.S. politics, targeting candidates and public figures across the political spectrum.'” The link is a gift link.
Alan Rappaport of the New York Times: “The United States budget deficit approached $2 trillion in the 2026 fiscal year, its highest level since the pandemic, as spending on the military, safety net programs and interest on the debt dwarfed the Trump administration’s cost cuts, Treasury Department figures showed on Friday. The widening gap between what the government spends and what it collects in taxes and other revenue comes at a critical moment. Investors are nervous about America’s surging debt load, along with stubborn inflation, and have driven up borrowing costs. Treasury bond yields, which influence interest rates for mortgages, credit cards and auto loans, hit their highest levels in two decades earlier this month before easing....
“The rising deficit, which increased to $1.99 trillion this fiscal year from $1.78 trillion in 2025, is notable because it comes at a time when the economy is growing steadily. The last time the deficit topped $2 trillion was in 2021, when the pandemic prompted Congress to approve a huge stimulus package to help keep the economy afloat. But there is not an immediate crisis that the nation is tackling. Instead, the shortfall stems from increased spending on the military, interest payments on the debt and Social Security benefits, coupled with falling corporate tax receipts as a result of the tax cut package.” The link is a gift link.
Half Life of a Scaramucci = a Zacharia. Shawn McCreesh, et al., of the New York Times: Donald “Trump's new press secretary, Katie Zacharia, was fired Friday, after less than a week on the job, according to three people familiar with the matter..... Neither the White House nor Ms. Zacharia responded to requests for comment. But Mr. Trump told reporters on Friday that he had encouraged Ms. Zacharia to 'reconsider' the job. 'Honestly, if I were you, I’d reconsider,' he told reporters, recounting his conversation with his press secretary. He said he added: 'Katie, do you need this? I don’t think you need this.' He said Ms. Zacharia might continue to work for him 'in some form, but maybe a more pleasant form.'... The end was nigh after she appeared on Fox News on Thursday night to be interviewed by the president’s friend Sean Hannity, who asked her a few tough questions and treated her with rare skepticism....
“The firing of the administration’s top spokeswoman capped off a week of remarkable upheaval inside Trumpworld. Kimberly Guilfoyle, the ambassador to Greece, was fired on television on Tuesday (during Ms. Zacharia’s only briefing). The president spent time in the Oval Office trying to get to the bottom of a vicious fight between two of his loyalists, Richard Grenell and Alina [Habba] Mildon. Paolo Zampolli, a longtime Trump confidant who claimed to have introduced the president to his wife, was pushed out at the State Department after one of his internecine feuds spilled into the press. And the daughter of Susie Wiles, the White House chief of staff, and others in her circle, came under scrutiny for their moneymaking overseas.” The link is a gift link.

From the pinned item at 5:00 pm Friday: “The man who cut short a deadly rampage at an Oregon elementary school by fatally shooting the 16-year-old attacker was the father of two students at the school. Officials had not yet identified the man on Friday, but family members, including his mother, confirmed his identity. The man, Kaylub Giamanco, intervened on Thursday as the teenage assailant attacked Silver Rail Elementary School with a shotgun, blasting through locked doors and killing a teacher and three children, ages 5, 8 and 11. A 7-year-old and another teacher were critically injured. Investigators have searched the home of the 16-year-old suspect, John J. Griffin II, according to a law enforcement official granted anonymity to discuss details of the case. His mother was cooperative, the official said, and investigators took the boy’s electronic devices under a search warrant. They believe the shooter used a weapon that belonged to his mother.”

⭐Dancing with the Big Grifter at the Oligarchs' Ball. Jonathan O'Connell, et al., of the Washington Post: “A list obtained by The Washington Post reveals all the major donors to ... Donald Trump’s White House ballroom project, including previously undisclosed contributors who have benefited from regulatory decisions, government contracts and, in one case, a pardon for a family member. Tech giants Nvidia and Apple each committed $25 million, the top contribution amount, the list shows. The Adelson family, one of the GOP’s largest donor dynasties, committed that sum as well, as did billionaire Charles Ergen, co-founder and chairman of telecommunications company Dish Network. Absent from the list is Trump himself, who has said that he is helping to pay for the project. 'It’s being paid for a hundred percent by me and some friends of mine,' he said last year, days after demolition began on the old East Wing....
“The list and other documents offer a panoramic view of a fundraising campaign that is extraordinary both for its size and opacity. Ordinary political giving requires public disclosure and is subject to campaign finance rules. The ballroom donations are collected by a nonprofit and then channeled to the government and into a White House account the president directly controls. Independent experts and scholars have expressed alarm at the potential the arrangement has for influence buying and coerced giving.” Emphasis added. The link is a gift link. (Also linked yesterday.)
Steven Portnoy & Katherine Faulders of ABC News: "... A White House lawyer says in court documents released on Wednesday that Trump's executive privilege -- which is the right of a president to keep confidential the communications he has with advisers -- would also cover his conversations with advisers who don't serve in government. The move comes as Democratic Rep. Joyce Beatty, an ex officio trustee of the Kennedy Center, seeks to obtain information in her ongoing lawsuit challenging the planned closure and renovation of the performing arts center, and whether Trump has plans to demolish it." ~~~

'He will die, as scheduled, by firing squad, but this event will not be streamed.' Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth last week announced plans to livestream the Dec. 3 firing squad execution of Hasan that were immediately denounced by Republicans, Democrats and the Catholic Church.... France 24: "Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky sought Thursday to rally European allies after saying Kyiv would no longer abide by ... Donald Trump's demands not to strike Russian oil refineries. Relations between Kyiv and Washington have soured since last week, when Trump eased sanctions on Russia in exchange for Moscow releasing large amounts of diesel onto global markets. The officials said leaders at the Defense Department received a message that the SpaceX Starshield service for the Ukrainian military needed to be slowed. The officials ... did not specify who in the White House made the decision or who was responsible for implementing the order.... Ukrainian officials said this week that military-grade Starlink receptors stopped working in Ukraine when mounted on fast-moving objects, interfering with the performance of Ukrainian drones that rely on them for onboard guidance systems over Ukrainian territory. Samantha Schmidt & Arturo Torres of the Washington Post: A U.S. “strike on [a fishing boat operating off Ecuador's coast on] Sept. 2 was part of a new phase in the Trump administration’s military campaign against alleged drug boats in waters near Ecuador. Instead of blowing up go-fast boats with crew members on board, U.S. forces are seizing and destroying large fishing vessels accused of providing drug traffickers with fuel to make their journeys toward the United States. In eight interdictions in less than a month, U.S. forces detained 160 crew members at sea before blowing up their fishing boats, calling them “narco-terrorist” refueling vessels. But most detainees have been released without charges or acquitted as Ecuadorian courts ruled, in case after case, that prosecutors failed to prove any crime.
“The interdictions are being conducted jointly with Ecuador, where the government of President Daniel Noboa has welcomed U.S. troops to fight drug-related violence. Unlike in most other strikes in the U.S. military’s year-long campaign, the crew on these vessels are not killed.... Ecuadorian officials agreed to support and join the U.S. operations as long as the attacks did not involve blowing up the boats with crews still aboard” ~~~
~~~ Marie: I'm delighted to see that, at least in some cases, our Trump-approved serial killers have switched from killing to catch-and-release. But the fact that these Ecuadorian fishermen are being released without charges surely implicates the U.S. government as serial murderers of people who are either innocent or not proved guilty of drug trafficking. The new tactic is an implicit condemnation of the previous policy of proudly blowing up people and releasing evidence of guilt in the form of Hegseth-endorsed snuff videos disseminated on government Websites. It's notable that the government of President Noboa, a right-wing autocrat himself, at least in this matter is more respectful of human life than is Donald Trump. And, again, another disappointment for Drunk Pete.
Scott Nover of the Washington Post: “Katie Zacharia, the new White House press secretary, appeared to confirm Thursday that she didn’t pass the California bar exam, saying the results were 'somewhat inconsequential' because she planned to move to China in 2011 for her husband’s work.... The White House repeatedly told The Post and other outlets that Zacharia practiced with 'all the appropriate credentials.' Two nonprofit groups on Wednesday filed formal complaints over Zacharia, asking the State Bar of California to investigate whether she engaged in the 'unlawful practice of law' by providing legal advice in media appearances and in her work as general counsel at Fix California, a nonprofit started by Trump administration official Richard Grenell. It is hardly surprising that a person who has a long career playing a lawyer on teevee would confuse a real actor with a fictional character. Zacharia is, after all, a fictional character herself who also believes in, as McCreesh notes, outlandish fictional right-wing conspiracy stories. But the photo they shared of their target was of a man whose family says he died almost a decade ago. In a statement on Saturday, Immigration and Customs Enforcement said that agents conducting a surveillance operation had seen their target, Jose Mendoza-Cervantes, climb into a vehicle driven by Miguel Parra Hernandez. When they tried to pull over the vehicle, Mr. Parra Hernandez, a 48-year-old construction worker, and a second man fled on foot. Surveillance footage captured an agent striking Mr. Parra Hernandez with an S.U.V. from behind as he ran away. The impact shattered the man’s leg, hip and ankle. The second man escaped.
“That day, ICE released a photo of the man they said they were seeking and said he had not been captured. ~~~ Digby on what motivates voters. ~~~
~~~ Marie: Though digby doesn't discuss this at all, she reminded me of something that suggests I've been unfair to some voters. It has irked me that so many voters seem to care about their own selfish needs far more than they care about or even consider general societal needs. That is a reasonable criticism of voters who are getting along just fine, yet still want fatter & fatter slices of the pie. But I got to thinking about Maslow's hierarchy of needs (or rather a bastardization of Maslow's hierarchy), and I realized I was being unfair to people who are truly in need. The Republican-forced drift away from "the nanny state" and toward higher and higher income inequality has meant, of course, a hollowing-out of a robust middle-class, a spike in the number of "have-nots." The basic needs of those have-nots -- food, shelter, health care, general education -- are not being met. So it is natural and sensible that their first concerns are those kitchen-table issues that digby writes about in the linked post.

Oregon. The New York Times liveblogged developments in a grade school shooting in Bend, Oregon. This is a gift link. From the pinned item at 7:30 pm ET Thursday: “Three children and one adult were killed on Thursday in a shooting at an elementary school in Oregon, and the shooter was also dead, a senior law enforcement official briefed on the investigation said. The suspect, who was not identified, was shot and killed, possibly by a bystander, the Bend Police Department said in a news release. The senior law enforcement official ... cautioned that the information was preliminary and could change as the investigation developed. Dispatchers were called at about 1 p.m. to Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Ore., for a report of gunshots fired into a car..., a spokeswoman for the Bend Police Department, told local reporters in streamed remarks. At least two people were transported to St. Charles Bend, a hospital less than five miles from the school, the authorities said. They did not provide information about their condition.” (Also linked yesterday.)
Texas Senate Race. Musk Buys a Paxton. Theodore Schleifer of the New York Times: Elon Musk, “the world’s richest person, who has become the biggest known midterm donor, gave $158 million to a group that quickly spent that much to help [Republican Ken] Paxton’s Senate bid in Texas.... Mr. Musk also donated $10 million to a separate pro-Paxton super PAC, money that allowed the group to start running television ads in late August.” The link is a gift link. ~~~
~~~ Cheyanne Daniels of Politico: “... Donald Trump is blaming fellow Republicans as his endorsed candidate, Ken Paxton, appears to be in a fierce struggle for a Senate seat in Texas with Democratic challenger James Talarico in a state the GOP has long taken for granted. Trump, in a lengthy post to Truth Social Thursday, singled out longtime Republican strategist Karl Rove and Sen. John Cornyn, the incumbent who failed to secure the president’s endorsement in a heated primary.”
Venezuela/U.S. Julie Turkewitz of the New York Times: “Venezuela’s exiled opposition leader, María Corina Machado, said in an extensive interview this week that Washington’s new oil partner in Venezuela, Alejandro Betancourt, was responsible for 'obscene corruption' and would not be a viable business associate were she to take power.... The conversation with Ms. Machado took place after months in which the U.S. government has kept her at a distance — passing her over in favor of an autocratic leader, Delcy Rodríguez, to lead the country in January and striking closed-door deals with embattled figures like Mr. Betancourt. Mr. Betancourt made a fortune through no-bid contracts for power plants, which involved overbilling state entities, according to an independent Venezuelan energy auditor. MB: As you will recall, Machado won the Nobel Peace Prize last year, and Trump was so upset by it that she handed the medal over to Trump. This year's Peace Prize winner Navi Pillay made a joke of that pathetic transaction.” The link is a gift link.
There was a session with a group of Iowa voters on Katy Turr's show last night. I cannot comprehend the informational vacuum these people live in. The guy in the video linked below says that he did better in 2016-2020 than he did in 2020-2024, so he voted for t**** in 2024. Yeah, 2020 was bad but...
Bernie Sanders in The Atlantic, on legislation he has introduced (with Representative Greg Casar) tp put guardrails on nutty Big Tech oligarchs ideas- A Terrible Plan for Humanity
"In Silicon Valley, some of the wealthiest people on Earth believe that they have the power to create a superior species. Sam Altman, the head of OpenAI, wrote in 2017 that AI would allow humans to become “the first species ever to design our own descendants.”
....
Elon Musk, ..., posted on X, “Propagating super intelligence to the stars is a great success condition for a biological bootloader,” likening humans to the programming that launches a computer’s operating system. Put simply, Musk is saying that humans are merely a step toward digital superintelligence."
Earlier in the week, Satchel Walton contributed a related story for Mother Jones - Elon Musk Hopes His New Factory Will Help AI Supplant Life on Earth
"The Terafab project, which recently broke ground 70 miles northwest of Houston, is planned to build chips for Tesla cars and humanoid robots, and for the newly-merged SpaceX and xAI. Currently, the design of advanced AI chips is dominated by Nvidia, and their fabrication by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC).
....
“We aspire to be a galactic civilization,” Terafab’s site says, and “harness all the energy in a galaxy.” But Musk’s recent statements raise a question about who, exactly, the “we” is—including a post he made last week that “Propagating super intelligence to the stars is a great success condition for a biological bootloader.”
A rough translation of what he seems to mean: humanity would fulfill its cosmic purpose by building AI—under Musk’s leadership—that tramples us all on its way to colonizing the universe."
So Susan Collins believes that anyone that opposes her is either a paid or planted agitator, no wonder she is still a Republican in good standing despite her concerns.
Chandelier Emergency
"The Washington Sun reports a small firm with big ties received a no-bid contract for nearly $50,000, with government officials citing “unusual and compelling urgency.” That urgency: Great Gatsby-style light fixtures for President Donald Trump’s birthday — just four of them to be exact.
“In this particular case, the environment of the 250th anniversary, the birthday, and other events [redacted],” reports the Sun, quoting a previously unreported contracting document dated June 5. “This must happen over the weekend as these must be in place before the June anniversary events.”"
"A computer error caused a backlog of hundreds of thousands of voter registrations in Texas, sending election workers scrambling to process them before early voting starts on Monday, county election officials said.
The backlog of nearly 600,000 applications stemmed from a glitch in software run by the Texas Department of Public Safety, according to a lawsuit filed last week by voting rights groups."
"Trump's Tyranny, Part I: ICE's Reign of Terror
A look at life in the very un-ordinary of times
We’ve already gotten used to a level of fascism, authoritarianism, and corruption that would be unthinkable and shocking to us just a decade ago.
Secret masked police are disappearing people off America’s streets, shooting people regularly, and killing them in concentration camps. Military troops are daily patrolling the streets of the nation’s capital. Our head of state is turning the capital into a cult of personality, bulldozing our collective memory and history and erecting grand celebrations of himself. The president’s political enemies are being persecuted by government agents, while his friends and families are enriching themselves at the public trough and demanding payment and tribute from favor-seeking private businesses."
Sudiksha Kochi, for The Hill decribes efforts by Democrats to " scrap a proposed overhaul of the Head Start program, warning the changes would weaken services for thousands of families nationwide." Bye-bye to Head Start
"But in a letter to Kennedy, members of the Democratic Women’s Caucus argued that HHS’s proposed rule would “strip the Head Start Program Performance Standards (HSPPS) of more than 90 percent of its standards, likely taking away vital services from children and families.”
“It eliminates and substantially weakens federal requirements governing early learning, health, mental health, and dental services, safety standards, family engagement and family social services, and other services that have defined Head Start for six decades,” they wrote.
The lawmakers said the proposed rule would eliminate a federal requirement that children be supervised at all times, reduce mandatory annual training on preventing abuse and neglect and repeal prohibitions on corporal punishment, shaming, humiliation and seclusion.
That didn't take long...
Looks like the Fat Misogynist is getting ready to throw another woman overboard, although in this situation it might be a case of self-overboarding.
"President Donald Trump has told press secretary Katie Zacharia to reconsider her role as his top spokesperson, he told reporters at the White House.
'Honestly, if I were you, I’d reconsider,' Trump said he told Zacharia on Friday morning.
He said they would speak when he returned to the White House and he would leave the decision to her. But he did not sound particularly encouraging of his embattled press secretary."
KKKatie (are these people chosen for those Ks in their names?) can, I suppose, go back to her fantasy job as a fake lawyer, but let's be clear, she's not the one responsible for this current clusterfuck. As usual, it's all Fatty's fault. He picks these people out of his demented central casting concept and when they fuck up (and they always do), he tosses them out as if it were all their fault. If experience, competence, and ability were qualifications for important government jobs, 99% of the charlatans, grifters, and Nazis currently collecting checks from the taxpayers would be back doing whatever the fuck they were up to before.
This could be Scott Jennings' chance if KKKatie self-defenestrates. Maybe if he put on a dress and donned a blonde wig he'd have a better chance. OR maybe he can wiggle his ass in Fatty's face. He is, after all, an ass man. In fact, as fans of Seinfeld learned, even though Kramer pretended to be the ASSMAN, Trump is the ASSMAN.
Just ask John Husted.
On BlueSky, a simple comparison that ought to publicized everytime a politician makes these sorts of stupid remarks - Aren't they embarrassed yet?
More "news" (as it were) from the Pusillanimous Pussyfooting Department , aka, the NY Times.
Over here we have a certain salacious settee assaulter basically calling James Talarico gay (which, in MAGA world is a horrible sin against....well, something, right?). Then over here, we have the New Yawk Times, euphorically euphemistic in searching for every which way they can to avoid calling Shady Vance a homophobic asshole.
"The New York Times is being coy about calling out bigotry again.
This time, it’s with their the delicately-phrased headline about JD Vance’s recent insinuations regarding James Talarico’s sexuality: 'Vance’s Talarico Attacks Show His Penchant for Personal Broadsides,' followed by an equally sterile deck: 'At a rally in Texas, the vice president suggested the Democratic Senate nominee is gay, a comment criticized as homophobic.'
Here’s a handy tell that editors and writers publication know that a remark is homophobic (or racist or sexist) but can’t summon the courage name it as such: Unnamed 'critics' coalesce out of thin air to voice concern, or an omniscient passive voice passes judgment–all so the paper can produce a conflict for the bigot to address from a distance: 'What do you say to critics who say [you did an explicitly awful thing]?”'suggests the offense is debatable, a matter of opinion. Maybe it wasn’t so bad? Who can say?"
As usual, this is the Times scrubbing down a Trumpy scumbag and sanding off any rough edges so as not to offend this offensive pile of stinking refuse. But their obfuscations do an enormous disservice to Times readers and to the nation at large. By refusing to correctly call out the endemic bigotry this administration displays on an almost hourly basis, the Times calls to mind the definition of treason: giving aid and comfort to the enemy.
I watched a pretty funny clip on Instagram earlier showing a comedian asking a "serious question" about the JFK assassination. He wanted to know "What's a knoll?" Okay, it's a small hill, so why not just say that. "The head of state was just shot. It's not the time for synonyms." How about a euphemistic description of the event: "Big cheese took some hot lead to the noodle. Nation is lugubrious."
Lugubrious is the word if we're talking about pusillanimous Times euphemisms that only serve to aid and abet the daily horrors of the Turd Reich.
It just occurred to me that Shady Vance is Grover Dill to Fatty's Scut Farkus.
You guys remember that great movie, "Christmas Story"? Our hero, Ralphie and his pals are in constant fear of the neighborhood bully, Scut Farkus ("What a name") and his "crummy little toady, Grover Dill", a nasty little twit with green teeth.
Farkus gets his later in the movie as Ralphie beats the living crap out of him while that crummy little toady runs away to tell his daddy.
Now the MAGAts have all loved having yellow eyed Scut Farkus as their bully boy president. Does anyone think they're going to vote for a crummy little toady with green teeth after Scut gets pummeled in the midterms?
Maybe they can give him the leg lamp, after all "it's a major award", and well, he does have that thing for certain household objects.
The Dodgers just got swept out of the playoffs by Milwaukee.
Oh Canada
"The crowd absolutely erupts when Carney says the Pacific Link pipeline will reduce Canada's dependence on the U.S.
Nearly Two-thirds of a Billion Dollars in Two Election Cycles From One Racist Nutjob
"Elon Musk has become the biggest political donor of the 2026 US midterm elections cycle, funneling about $366m into political groups and campaigns as he backs conservative candidates and rightwing causes. The world’s richest person has poured more than $276m into politics since July alone, some of the most rapid political spending in US history. He’s targeting key races that will determine which party controls the US Senate.
The New York Times first reported the spending numbers, which will be released in a federal filing on Thursday. Musk’s spending outpaces his 2024 presidential election contributions, in which he sunk nearly $300m into Donald Trump’s re-election campaign."
Just as John Roberts and the Swine Court Supremes wrote it up.
Holy light fixtures, Batman, a chandelier emergency? Now, was this a one Depends emergency or a two Depends emergency? After all, taxpayers aren't only paying for these chandeliers, we're paying for Fatty's diapers. We need to be sure that funds are being expended efficiently, amirite?
Did Elmo and his Teenage Mutant Ninja Nazis at DOGE check those diapers to make sure they were being efficiently used? Changing diapers in mid-chandelier emergency might not have been the most efficacious way to collect whatever poop-a-doop jetted out of the presidential posterior when news of this potential lighting fixture national emergency disaster was broken. I think we need a congressional investigation into this whole mess.
And who transmitted the fateful information? Susie Wiles? Some Architectural Digest home design consultant flunky? Do they have proper national security clearance? Or are they, like 666Jared, unable to get clearance so we'll just let them in on national security secrets like this Chandelier Emergency. Who knows? This could be an enormous scandal on a par with the Zimmerman Telegram prior to WWI. Could the Chandelier Emergency have triggered WWIII?
Whew, looks like we might have dodged a big one. But PEW....time to change that diaper Hope there's no curtain rod emergency in the near future. We might not survive.
About that sweep of the Dodgers by the lowly Milwaukee Brewers. There might be an object lesson here. The Brewers' payroll was about $172 million. The Dodgers payroll? About half a billion (with another half a billion stretched out over contract years). Money doesn't always buy victory. And the Brewers were down 4-0 last night but clawed back to sweep the NLCS. (It's possible the Trump Jinx had some effect as well...)
Maybe the. South African Chainsaw Maniac's infusion of hundreds of millions in support of authoritarian control of the state, a country where Rich as Croesus oligarchs and tech-bros call the shots as our overlords might not bring about the hoped for Shit-tra-la he hopes for.
Will it be a clean sweep? House and Senate? We shall see.
Maybe Wars, Bombing Schoolgirls and Kidnapping Heads of State isn't the Peace They Were Envisioning
"FIFA may scrap the contentious ‘FIFA Peace Prize’ – merely 12 months after U.S. President Donald Trump received the inaugural honor from Gianni Infantino. The Athletic reports that the divisive award could be discontinued at year’s end, just 12 months after Trump was presented with it.
They have also established that, should the award continue, it may bar politicians from being recipients. FIFA’s social responsibility committee is anticipated to deliver its findings at the next FIFA Council meeting in Doha in December."
@Akhilleus: Thanks for pointing out the Times' (and others') indispensable "critics say." It's the precise equivalent of Trump's "Everybody says" and "They're saying," a subset of which are the "sir" stories and "burly men come to me in tears to thank me for ...."
I find it very easy (and honest) to say directly that JayDee's remark was not only anti-gay but it was a permission slip from an ostensible authority figure for people to make "jokes" about gay people because there's something inherently "wrong with" gay people (so wrong, apparently, they can't do taxing jobs like "senator"). It was a reprehensible, bigoted remark and the Times editors should be willing to report that as a simple, straightforward fact, not as an opinion of some unnamed "critics." (One would hope that all of us -- including the Times editors -- would be among those "critics.")
KKKate we hardly knew ye....
But hardly was plenty. So, a couple of things...first, a key rule of job hunting:
Thou shalt not pad thy resume. It shall bite thee in the butt later on.
"Hey, new guy. Come over here and fix the bugs in this program."
"Um...I can't."
"Your resume said you were a programmer!"
"Well, what I meant was I watched a program about it once."
Going on Fox to spout winger bullshit with "Lawyer" in the lower third might have been gratifying for KKKatie, but pretending to be something you're not can get you in trouble. Or fired.
And speaking of firings...once again the Orange Monster demonstrates his essential cowardly nature. I can't find anywhere a note about that fingers who actually fired her. Fatty sez he left it up to her (hint-hint) which absolves him of having to admit that he fucked up and that he was the one who booted her.
And one more thing, a nice little knee-slapper of a lagniappe. The Times article points out (twice!) that KKKatie had Natalie Harp's support. Well then...maybe we should run all governmental hires by Natalie, see if she's okay with the choices. Unwavering support from the human printer for one of the most important and visible jobs in official Washington is like asking the janitor at NASA if he's okay with a new rocket design.
And the head of lettuce wins!
Just remembered a line in the Economist about how the tenure of Liz Truss as Britain's Prime Minister would correspond to the shelf life of a head of iceberg lettuce. Truss lasted 49 days. She easily beat the head of lettuce. But not KKKatie. That iceberg is still crisp and fresh.
As an analogy for the Trump Administration, "Not as good as a head of lettuce" ain't bad.
Remember when we thought the future would be cool and innovative. This is what happens when the lazy rich buy out everything because they are scared of being left behind and also think that they are geniuses because of one idea that they got lucky with hit before anyone else was able to get established in an emerging field.
"A man found out his job interviewer was AI, so he let his own AI take over and walked away, leaving both AIs stuck in an endless goodbye loop."
Just heard a clip of a reporter asking the Dear Leader who ordered Starlink to be taken down in Ukraine.
"I don't know". was his lying answer. He doesn't know? Who else could do it? Elmo sez "Wasn't me, it came from the White House" (which sounds like a fifties monster movie title).
Oh, maybe it was Natalie. Maybe she isn't giving Zelensky her "full support". Or maybe one of the office clerks did it. Only the president can order a national intelligence and military directive like that. He did it to show Daddy Vlad that little donnie is still his boy, and to fire a shot across the Ukrainian bow to let them know whose side he's really on.
A despicable liar and traitor. And for what? A pat on the head from a murdering dictator?
Jesus.
Akhilleus,
If Trump doesn't know then the follow up should be why he doesn't know what is going on in the White House and who is actually running the country. Over and over he says he doesn't know what is going on, but no one calls him out that he is telling us that he is not in charge or kept in the loop of what is going on. He was asked the day after it was reported on the White House sabotage of Ukraine. So he has no excuses for not following up what happened. A real president would have and he should constantly be reminded to his fat face that he is not a president.
@Akhilleus: Here's the whole story (or most of it) on Liz Truss v. a Head of Iceberg. Bon appetit!
Both of them are known liars
"Musk approached Trump to slow down Starlink in Ukraine
SpaceX founder had publicly blamed president for chaos over restrictions, but sources say he initiated them
Elon Musk approached Donald Trump with the idea of slowing down Starlink in Ukraine, The Telegraph can reveal. The billionaire tech entrepreneur approached the US president with the proposal to introduce speed limits on the system, which hampered Ukraine’s drone defences, according to four sources familiar with the discussions.
One of the sources said Mr Trump “agreed” with Mr Musk’s suggestion, paving the way for the Pentagon to execute the slowdown on Starshield, the military-grade version of the satellite communications system."
Marie,
Thanks for the political produce report. I wondered what Ms. Truss was up to now. Apparently the thing for failed pols to do is start a podcast and bring on like minded bloviators to spout right-wing nonsense. Hopefully she’s not offering financial advice given the fact that days into her reign she triggered a nationwide market panic.
RAS,
Yeah, I left out that observation that if Fatty didn’t know what was going on and who was pulling the levers, he should have.
Last week I read a Katherine Anne Porter short story which reminded me of a certain fat idiot who is always saying things like “No one knows that Lincoln was a Republican”.
In “That Tree”, Porter describes a character who “…was always making marvelous discoveries that other people had known all along.”
Quite. At least that character wasn’t the president*.
